Part 2 of 2 - Your HD Profile + Role - Embody Your Human Design Profile

Hi Reader,

Earlier this week we talked about how important your envirornement is when it comes to building your Business Ecosystem. Today I want to talk about your profile and its role in building a business at the intersection of your design, desires and lifestyle.

You can find your profile's role at the bottom but first a little context...

Each of the Profiles play a role in a greater collective cycle. Each profile does work that feeds the next profile in the cycle. The 1/3 feeds the 1/4, the 1/4 feeds the 2/4 and so and so forth. You can learn more here.

That means each of us have a specific role that our profile (and subsequent parts of our design - remember the parts doesn't exist without the whole) plays out in a greater collective. When we are not living that role we are creating a ripple effect in the collective profile cycle therefor making greater collective not-self themes.

But this doesn't just happen at the collective level - it happens individually, in relation, in community and collectively.

We create resistance and turbulence for ourselves and the people in our lives…So if we are not owning our role the ripple effect spreads…this is a big problem in our current collective.

Conversely, when we are living out the high expression of our profiles - we feed each of the other profiles in the cycle and live out a more harmonious life both in our day to day lives but also in the collective.

For example, if people are hoarding a 3/5's perspective and trying to take it on as their own and dolling out advice from the 3/5's place vs their own…this creates a not-self ripple effect. The optimal way would be to refer people to the 3/5 and own the role of their own profile….This creates more not-self for the individual but also for those in the individual's life which then spreads into the collective.

This is just one example…another example is 1/3…they end up so busy trying to control others they forget to build their own foundation and experiment with it…this then leads to a rocky foundation for the rest of the profiles in the cycle.

I could go on and on because I have hundreds, probably 1000's of examples from my work but the point is that…you have a role to play in a greater collective cycle when it comes to your design.

That doesn't happen by trying to be something that you are not.

That doesn't happen by pretending, shrinking, should'ing or perfecitonism.

That doesn't happen when you are following an homogenized approach, or contorting yourself to fit into someone else's business plan.
It happens when you own all of who you are and your profile's role in a greater cycle.

One of the things that bothers me most about the HD Space is how it has simplified the profiles. It has been watered down to adjectives yet this is a critical part of our design's to live out, to embody, to show up authentically so that we can live out the high expressions of our journey in this lifetime.

This is also simultaneously one of the biggest places I see people out of alignment - their profile.

I can spot it a mile away. 1/3 behaving like 4/6's. 3/5 behaving like 1/3's, 6/2 behaving like 2/4's.

This creates a ripple effect in the collective - when we are all trying to be something we are not. Contorting ourselves to fit into some narrative or role that isn't ours to play we create more turbulence in our lives.

This is also often where many HD people gloss over the depth that is present when it comes to the profiles.

The nuance of the profile is missing, the depth, the embodiment and living out the high expression of this piece.

They also fail to understand how the different parts like profile impact the whole.

A 1/3 MG doesn't behave the same as a 5/1 MG. The 1/3 isn't going to be as MG'y (if that's a world) assuming they are in the high expression.

A 6/2 Projector isn't going operate the same as a 6/2 Manifestor.

The HD Space looks at each of the parts of Human Design in test tubs or a silo. Each part individually. But that's not how HD Works in the real world…each of the parts impact the whole.

Each of the test tubs aka parts of your design get dumped into a beaker and mixed together to make the whole of who you are….that's what makes human design so different than all of the other systems out there…

It is nuanced, there is synthesis involved. The parts come together to form an entirely different whole.

Our profiles in human design shine a light on our personality AND

  • Strengths and weaknesses
  • The themes that will play out in our lives
  • Lessons to Be Learned
  • Our career, talents, and expertise
  • How we connect and relate to others
  • Our attachment styles (both high and low expression)
  • Our social and emotional intelligence
  • The voice of our inner child
  • Our becoming and Ecocentric self.

Each of these pieces are like the design of a lighthouse that is uniquely ours. It can call us back home to ourselves again and again or we can live out our lives in someone else's lighthouse because we fail to own the work, role and journey that we are here to live.

When we are in the incongruent or not-self expression of our profile we are living out a role that is not ours to play often as a result of our upbringing, past lived experiences, and limiting beliefs.

That is why it is critical to deconditioning and get back to the nature of who you are before the world told you who you should be…

This is why it is necessary to put down the baggage you are carrying, reckon with, tend to and let go of all those traits, habits and roles that are not yours to play.

Here are the 12 Profiles and their roles.

1/3 — Investigator / Martyr

Establishes the safe foundation.

Researches, gathers information, and experiments until it's tested and secure. The 1/3 builds the foundation everything else stands on.

In business, the 1/3 is often the one still testing the offer, the pricing, the process — long after others would have called it finished. That thoroughness is the contribution, not a delay.

1/4 — Investigator / Opportunist

Builds on the foundation.

Takes the 1/3's tested foundation, does a bit more research, and uses their network to influence others with it.

The 1/4 tends to grow a business through relationships and referral — their network becomes the distribution channel for a foundation someone else secured.

2/4 — Hermit / Opportunist

Shows what's possible.

Takes the foundation and shows people what's possible when it's in place — moving others from weakness to strength.

The 2/4 often works best when invited, then shown, rather than chased — their business grows through demonstrated possibility, not persuasion.

2/5 — Hermit / Heretic

Brings the possibility to the world.

Tests the possibility under pressure and disrupts with it — brings it out of hiding and into the world.

The 2/5 is often called on publicly to solve a problem, then retreats to recalibrate before being called out again — a natural rhythm, not a flaw.

3/5 — Martyr / Heretic

Finds the new perspective.

Experiments further with the disruption because it's failing the collective, and discovers a new perspective on it.

The 3/5 often can't stick with an offer once they sense it isn't landing — that willingness to scrap and rebuild is exactly the role, not a sign of inconsistency.

3/6 — Martyr / Role Model

Experiments and mentors.

Takes the new perspective, experiments with it, and mentors others through it.

The 3/6 tends to build authority through lived trial and error, then teach from the scar tissue — mentorship rooted in direct experience.

4/6 — Opportunist / Role Model

Curates the truth.

Carefully curates the foundation, possibility, and experiment into their own truth, then influences others with it — without changing anything further.

The 4/6 often becomes the steady, trusted voice in a niche — not the disruptor, the one who distills what's already been proven into something clear and dependable.

4/1 — Opportunist / Investigator

Refines while influencing.

Curates and influences with the foundation while doing more research to make it even more secure.

As the juxtaposition profile, the 4/1 will move between periods of public influence and periods of private research — both are the work, not a distraction from it.

5/1 — Heretic / Investigator

Builds the practical, predictable version.

Takes the safer foundation and develops a new, disruptive approach — one that has to be practical and work for everyone.

The 5/1 carries a tall order: whatever they build has to actually work at scale, for people they'll never meet. Practicality is the brand.

5/2 — Heretic / Hermit

Calls it out.

Calls themselves out and showcases a new possibility built on that disruption.

The 5/2 often builds trust by naming an uncomfortable truth publicly, then retreating — visibility in bursts, not a constant presence.

6/2 — Role Model / Hermit

Offers objective advice.

Provides objective guidance to individuals so they can figure out what's next, often after stepping back from a world that no longer fits.

The 6/2 tends to do well holding space as an objective guide rather than an educator — offering counsel from a step back, not instruction from the front.

6/3 — Role Model / Martyr

Finds what's beyond, and closes the loop.

Looks around, sees that nothing is working for anyone anymore, and experiments to find what's beyond it — passing it back to the 1/3 so the cycle can start again.

The 6/3 often ends up the one naming that an entire model or industry has stopped working — uncomfortable, necessary, and exactly their role in closing the loop.

Hi Reader, One of the elements I look at when I consider the Human Design aspect of your design, desires and lifestyle is your environment. The Environment is a vibrant thread that holds your business ecosystem together. It is also one of the most common places where I see people out of congruence. Then we make decisions, build offers, support clients and market from our not-self which only creates more turbulence for ourselves. Business Design Day is around the corner so I thought I would...
