Part 1 of 2 - Your HD Environment + Business Ecosystem

Hi Reader,

One of the core elements I leverage in building a business at the intersection of your design, desires and lifestyle is your Human Design Environment.

This is a vibrant thread that is woven through your business ecosystem and a core piece of what allows you and your nervous system, emotions, fears, anxieties, and nerves to feel safe.

When your environment is aligned you can hold space for clients, you can step into your growth zone and expand, and you can show up as your Whole-Self® in all that you do.

Conversely, when your environment is unaligned you are in an activated nervous system state…this means you won't be able to hold the optimal space for clients, you won't attract the correct for you people in your marketing and you are not honoring the whole of yourself - you are often operating from a place of should's, perfectionisms or some other industry norm that does not suite you.

Here are some examples of how that might look based on each environment.

Also keep in mind, I believe the not-self exists in a spectrum….

Hypo-activated Self <= Congruent Self => Hyper-Activated Self

So if you are reading these and thinking…the opposite is true that is because the not-self exists in a spectrum.

In a SUPER SIMPLIFIED and distilled down example.

Hypo- activated is when you are disengaged, withdrawn, going through the motions, perfectionism, kicking the can down the road, and burnt out

Hyper-activated is when you are forcing, should'ing, checking the boxes, or following someone else's strategy or plan.

As always I believe the parts don't exist without the whole in human design.

Take what resonates and leave the rest.

I'd love for you to hit reply your aha and environment.

Let's Dive Into the Environments:

The Caves Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You’re posting every day good engagement, terrible energy. You feels like a content machine, not a person
  • Or You are not posting at all and no one knows you exist.
  • You launched a large group program because everyone said that's how you “should” scale. It drained you completely.
  • You’re trying to be active on every platform, visible everywhere, and exhausted at the core.
  • You are over-sharing in an attempt to seem 'relatable' — but it doesn't feel intimate. It feels performed and unsafe.
  • You are constantly ON - responding to messages instantly, you are available to everyone, and have no private space left for yourself.

How it Feels:

Hollow. Loud. Like performing a version of yourself that isn't quite you and watching it land less and less.

The Return Path

Stop producing. Create one real thing that actually means something to you. Let it be small. Let it be true

The Core Pattern:

"The Cave not-self looks like volume. The return to self looks like depth, foundation, and space."

The Markets Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You are forcing oneself into one strict niche and now dreading creating content. The spark is completely gone.
  • Doing everything by the “shoulds” book one offer, one platform, one message and it feels like a cage.
  • You’ve stopped collaborating because you thought it diluted your brand. Your energy (and business) flatlined.
  • You are burnt out. Not from doing too much but from doing the same thing, the same way, every single day because you “should’
  • You don’t want people to think that you are flakey so you keep posting and offering the same thing but it lacks the timing and possibilities that you know you can offer up.

How it Feels:

Stagnant. Flat. Like being forced to drive in a straight line when every instinct says to explore honor the seasons.

The Return Path

Follow the curiosity. Do the collab. Talk about the unrelated thing that's been lighting you up. Let the variety back in.

The Core Pattern:

"The Market not-self looks like monotony. The return to self looks like movement, seasonality, & timing."

The Kitchens Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You’ve been posting inconsistently for months — showing up in bursts, then disappearing. Your community has stopped expecting you.
  • You’ve been chasing viral reach on cold platforms instead of tending the warm community you already have.
  • You’ve been running high-pressure, scarcity-based launches that feel completely at odds with who you are.
  • You are burnt out from giving too much to too many — the kitchen is empty and has nothing left to serve.
  • You built a one-to-many funnel model because it looked scalable, but the lack of real connection is burning you out.
  • You are showing up but it lacks the creativity that you know you are capable of.

How it Feels:

Empty. Transactional. Like running a restaurant where no one ever actually eats just orders and leaves.

The Return Path

Come home. Tend the community you have. Show up consistently, generously, in the spaces that actually feel warm & transformative.

The Core Pattern:

"The Kitchen not-self looks like scarcity and scatter. The return to self looks like gathering."

The Mountains Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You’ve been softening your opinions to be more likable and your content has become indistinguishable from everyone else's.
  • You are watering yourself down because you're scared of the whiplash that might come if you speak authentically.
  • You following another coach's exact strategy because it worked for them. It's not working for you.
  • Your chasing trends: every new platform, every viral format, every cultural moment. Zero authority. Maximum noise.
  • Your showing up consistently instead of when you feel called to speak up.
  • You're over-explaining and justifying your point of view instead of simply *owning* it.

How it Feels:

Diminished. Diluted. Like looking at a mountain that's been landscaped into a hill.

The Return Path

Say the true thing. The clear thing. Let the authority be what it is without apology or hedging.

The Core Pattern:

"The Mountain not-self looks like compromise. The return to self looks like altitude."

The Valleys Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You are overwhelmed with marketing because it feels impersonal and leaves you feeling disconnected.
  • You keep starting and stopping your content strategy because you want it to feel like an exchange but it often feels like shouting into a black hole.
  • You are in trying to following the pressurized launch formula because that is what you told works — urgency, scarcity, pressure and it's pushing the right clients away.
  • You burned out from doing more when the actual answer was to do differently (and sometimes less).
  • You are so busy chasing that you are not available to receive what's already trying to reach you.

How it Feels:

Exhausted. Upstream. Like swimming against a current that exists specifically to tell you something.

The Return Path

Stop pushing. Create space. Trust the flow that's been trying to reach you. Let it in.

The Core Pattern:

"The Valley not-self looks like hustle & shoulds. The return to self looks like openness."

The Shores Not-Self Actually Looks Like:

  • You’ve marketed yourself as a 'transformation' coach and now you have to contend with the pressure to make that happen.
  • You feel rushed to produce a result and skip all the nuance that makes your work actually work.
  • Your producing, polished content that strips out all the complexity — and wondering why it doesn't resonate.
  • You post then take it down because you change your mind.
  • You positioned yourself in the 'after' when his real magic is in the 'messy middle' and the thresholds your create.
  • Your trying to make your work look cleaner and more linear than it actually is — and losing your most aligned clients in the process.

How it Feels:

Shallow. Performative. Like editing out the best parts of yourself to fit a frame that was never yours.

The Return Path

Go back to the threshold. Name the in-between. Trust that the right people don't need you to have all the answers — they need you to know the terrain.

The Core Pattern:

"The Shore not-self looks like false resolution. The return to self looks like honest liminality."

Hi Reader, One of the elements I look at when I consider the Human Design aspect of your design, desires and lifestyle is your environment. The Environment is a vibrant thread that holds your business ecosystem together. It is also one of the most common places where I see people out of congruence.
